Let's Talk Transportation Terms and Conditions

Transport Canada (TC) is committed to Open government, which focuses on transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. As such, TC regularly consults with Canadians, Indigenous partners, industry and other key stakeholders on transportation-related issues. The feedback received from these consultations help to guide updates and shape new initiatives in transportation by bring to the forefront the voices of partners, stakeholders and Canadians who are most impacted.  

Let’s Talk Transportation is an extension of the Government of Canada websites. By participating in our consultations posted on this site you agree to the terms and conditions on this page. 

What Information do we Collect?

We collect: 

  • Basic identity information when you register to use Let’s Talk Transportation. This information includes your screen name and email address 

No identifying information will be collected from you if you do not register to use the platform. 

  • User-generated content when you participate in our consultations. These are the comments you post on the site after you have signed-in to participate in a public consultation. This content includes, but is not limited to your comments, responses, photos, images, videos, and other attachments that you share on the Let’s Talk Transportation platform. 


Why do we Collect this Information?

Let's Talk Transportation collects and displays user content for the sole purpose of providing the opportunity for meaningful discussion through direct feedback from Canadians and Indigenous Peoples on TC-related policies, programs, services and other initiatives. 

We collect this information to:  

  • analyze and interpret all comments to inform policy, program and regulatory changes and overall to help inform policy creation;
  • contact you when you request information or updates on TC’s consultations – for which you can opt out at any time; and
  • improve the user experience on our platform. 
How to Access the Platform

To access Let’s Talk Transportation, you are first required to sign-up for a GCKey. A GCKey is a unique credential that protects your communications with online Government programs and services. Once you have your GCKey, you can use your username and password to log in to Let’s Talk Transportation here. 

User Comments & Engagement

We support a safe and inclusive space for meaningful participation. We ask that your comments be respectful and relevant to the consultation topic. We reserve the right to delete comments and/or block users based on comments that: 

  • contain personal information (yours or others)
  • are written in a language other than English, French, or an Indigenous language
  • violate theCanadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Copyright Act, or Privacy Act
  • express profanity, racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, threatening, illegal, insulting, harmful or any inappropriate comments.
  • spread misinformation or disinformation
  • disrupt the flow or integrity of the discussion
  • are irrelevant to the topic of consultation 

Please note that this is not a question/answer forum and that all comments are subject to review.

User Consent

By using this site, you agree to the terms and conditions posted here and consent to TC using the information we collect. 

Monitoring

Let’s Talk Transportation is monitored Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time. Questions or comments posted outside of these hours will be addressed on the next business day. 

Official Languages

The Official Languages Act (OLA) ensures respect for English and French as the official languages of Canada. 

To ensure compliance with the OLA, Let’s Talk Transportation consultations are available in both English and French. Users are encouraged to comment in their preferred official language.

We strive to achieve a high standard of accessibility as defined in the Standard on Web Accessibility and the Standard on Optimizing Websites and Applications for Mobile Devices

Privacy Notice

The personal information you provide to Transport Canada will be collected by the Public Opinion Research and Consultation team within TC’s Communications branch under Sections 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 of the Policy on Communications and Federal Identity, Section 7 of the Financial Administration Act, and handled in accordance with the Privacy Act.  

We require your personal information to register to use the Let’s Talk Transportation Consultation Platform. This includes your name and email address. We also collect information that you put on the site after you have signed up including, but not limited to your comments to open consultations, responses to surveys or polls and any documents, images, videos, or other files you upload to our platform. We collect your feedback for the sole purpose of informing policy, program and service updates.

When you sign up for a user account, you provide your name and email to Transport Canada. Transport Canada does not share that information. Your name and email will be used to contact you if you request to be informed on any updates pertaining to the consultation you participated in. Publicly available information is limited to your screen name and any comments you leave under that name in any of the consultation forums you participate in. All feedback collected will be summarized and reported in aggregate by Transport Canada.  

If you choose not to provide your name and email, you will be unable to sign into and participate in the consultations posted on our Let’s Talk Transportation platform.  

You have the right to request access to, and correction of, your personal information. You also have a right to file a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you feel your personal information has been handled improperly. For more information about these rights, or about how we handle your personal information, please contact the Access to Information and Privacy Office ATIP/AIPRP@tc.gc.ca.
